IF THE beaches around Scotland are suddenly filled with people wanting to take up surfing, then the finger of blame can be pointed squarely in the direction of Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom.
His co-star in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Scottish actor, singer and all-round nice guy Billy Boyd can also shoulder some of the blame.
During the filming of the epic movies in New Zealand, the lads had lots of spare time, as Billy explained: “Orlando is a total adrenaline junkie. Every time we had a day off he would say, let’s go bungee jumping, let’s drive motorbikes, let’s do something exciting.
“In response I’d say something along the lines of no, let’s go and have a nice cup of tea somewhere, or let’s go to the cinema.
“But one day Orlando suggested we get boards and have a go at surfing.
“Now surfing was something I’d always wanted to try, so I went along, loved it, and caught the bug for surfing.”
