谣言：
7 November 2003年11月7日的Daily Mail 上传言： 在英国独立电影奖的现场，Ian McKellen激怒了他的同伴Orlando Bloom，因为他说参加颁奖令他高兴的是，能和在魔戒中共事的Orlando的亲吻拥抱。生气的Bloom立刻回击道：“我不是同性恋，我有女朋友”
辟谣：
在11月5号的英国独立电影奖的现场，Orlando Bloom作为嘉宾给Ian McKellen爷爷颁奖。他们俩坐一张桌子，谈论彼此的近况。
Orlando发表了一通迷人的演说，Ian爷爷对此颇为自谦地回答道：“我不能肯定我能如此荣幸，也许举办者们能理解吧，我能到这里来随便喝免费饮料，还有机会亲吻Orlando。”听了Ian爷爷这话，Orlando没有丝毫的牢骚，反而笑得更开心了，他完全把爷爷的玩笑当作一种褒奖。而且，第二天他又打电话为Ian爷爷邀请他参加典礼而向致谢，又说他是多么期待和爷爷在12月新西兰的魔戒第三部的首映上重会。
由于媒体的歪曲报道，Ian爷爷起初以为Orlando对他的话感到不快，他打电话给Orlando说如果他不喜欢他那么说他可以收回，但Orlando说完全没有那么回事，可见这是媒体的臆造。

The next day, the tabloids said I was very angry and hated Ian because he kissed me. It was a shame, because Ian called me and asked if I was upset. I told him: 'Of course, I'm not. I love you, man. You're like family.'"
It just mentions then about how he is now comfortable on big sets and that he never intentionally runs for the bigger movies.
