I know you are all thinking - WELL GET TO THE IMPORTANT STUFF! Personally, and this is where the managing expectations part comes in, I found it painful to watch him most of the time - not because he doesn't do a good job but because he does. And my guess is, he is going to get alot of grief for it.
As those of you with even a passing knowledge of the Iliad know, Paris is NOT meant to be a likeable character. It's hard to watch the guy we all love be somebody that is so objectionable ( I'm trying not to give too much away here). As I said before I ever saw the movie, I think it was very gutsy to agree to do the part. Especially after being the most noble, brave, magnificent elf, it is really difficult to watch him simper.
My concern is that many people won't see it as acting. They will just think he was foolish rather than the character - alot of people laughed when he was on screen - and I think that is where his looks work against him. I can imagine alot of people feeling he was just there to look pretty and not realizing that he really is acting - its just that the part is not attractive.
Speaking of looking pretty - he is absolutely , undeniably gorgeous. Period.
I hope people can see that Orly really does do a good job but in my opinion, you would be better off to let go of the idea that you are going to fall madly in love with Paris because I really doubt it. Doesn't mean you can't still adore the actor who plays him, however....
Orlando's character, Paris, was great. I wanted to hug him, fuck him, slap him, roll my eyes at him, cry for him, and kick his wimpy little butt when he clung to Hectors leg. BUT I'm probably being a hypocrite here, because I know if I were fighting Menelaus I'd go hide behind Hector.
I think the boy did a good job. Maybe I'm biased because he's my #1, but I truly think he did a good job.
What I would have liked to see more in the film is more involvement in Helen and Paris' relationship. A) Because he basically just 'takes' this woman away and ultimately sparks the downfall of Troy. Then they don't really focus on them/concequences of their actions for the rest of the movie. They're sort of forgotten after the beginning. B) Because it would have been really nice to see more nudity on Orlando's part.
