Well, as a follow-up to this Orlando Bloom Files blurb, that piece no longer appears posted under the March 11th heading where it was the 2nd or 3rd paragraph originally. It's been taken down. I went to OBF to check after seeing a thread at the IMDb Orlando board talking about that report as most likely being a false rumor. Quoting here:

Okay, I returned to the site where I first read the info a mere 4 hours ago and to my surprise, it has been removed. "Am I losing my marbles" I ask? So I go to Google and sure enough, there it is dated March 13, Re: POTC filming "....Bloom bodyguard now on standby at all times...yada, yada, yada".
So I follow the link to the site and again I see that ALL the 3/14 "news" has been deleted - 3/11 is now most recent. This was the OB Files news section, not the message board, which tries to be accurate and won't print rumor or gossip ( so they say). Anyway, leads me to believe that the info they got was tainted and they pulled it - like lightening fast. So I don't know what else to say except sorry and that something was not kosher with the report, apparently. Haven't seen it anywhere else. It makes sense that, if true at all, it would most probably would have been extras, although that's also a rash statement to make. The extras for E-town were quite well behaved.

Hi JetsterMcB! Thanks for both your posts. I personally doubt that any extras on "Pirates" would behave unprofessionally like that. Extras for feature films are hired through casting agencies such as Central Casting, among others, and those agencies give their 'people' a briefing about what is expected in terms of professional behavior. The fastest way out the door of such an agency, as well as being fired from a particular job as an 'extra', is to be unprofessional with other actors, or your wardrobe, or other people on the set. On some of the shows I worked on, the costume dept. had problems with some of the background players, and we simply requested that those individuals NOT be brought back the next day. And that request was honored.
I suspect that the rumor you read was just that - a rumor, and it was hopefully taken down because it was untrue. The "Pirates" sequels will be professional quality productions with professional people all the way through. That includes the background players, also known as 'atmosphere' or 'extras.'
That piece also sounded strange to me and I had my suspicions that the story wasn't true because I didn't see it repeated in any other online sites or articles. As you can see, it came from a person named Willye, only God knows who this person is or where he/she got that story from. I think that after OBF did a little checking, the admins decided to remove it from their site because they could not corroborate its authenticity |
