Green Carpet Moment

hether or not they抳e been nominated for Academy Awards, Hollywood stars will ride to the Henry Fonda Music Box Theatre this Friday in vehicles fueled by hybrid power or bio-diesel. They will walk across a green carpet just two days before strolling Oscar抯 famous red one, and you抮e invited to join them. Their purpose: to raise environmental awareness and increase understanding of the need for renewable, sustainable energy sources.
Now in its second year, the 揋lobal Green Oscar Party?may well show Hollywood抯 elite in their most flattering light. 揃y taking celebrities in these vehicles,?says Ruben Aronin, director of communications for the event, 搘e抮e focusing on a positive environmental message that we [can] disseminate nationally and hopefully worldwide. We [want] to call attention to solutions individuals can take to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and our impact on global warming.?
Global Green抯 mission is to work with governments, industry, and (in this case) the well-known faces of Hollywood to advocate intelligent solutions to ever-increasing climate change, plus air, earth, and water pollution. Through personal transportation and other initiatives, the organization aims to effect a 揼lobal shift?toward a healthy environmental future (揝hift Happens,?their ads promise). Friday抯 party is intended to be an educational festival, proving you don抰 have to break the bank to take positive action.
The event is the brainchild of Matt Petersen, president of Global Green, and board member Jordan Harris, who together came up with the idea five years ago. They held the first one in 2003, aimed at urging President Bush to attend the Earth Summit in Johannesburg. Yet even with Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tobey Maguire in attendance, Bush didn抰 heed the call. So the following year, Petersen and Harris took the next step: hold it Oscar weekend, when A-list stars and media coverage abound.
At press time, Charlize Theron, Orlando Bloom, Kate Bosworth, Julie Delpy, Salma Hayek, and Roland Emerich will be attending, and you can look forward to live musical performances by Fishbone, Money Mark, and DJ Se駉r Amor, plus several surprise guests. There will also be an 揺co-raffle?with a grand prize vacation at an eco-resort in Loreto Bay, a new town in Baja, Mexico, just off the Sea of Cortes and beneath the Sierra de la Giganta mountains. You抣l be green with envy, at the very least.
