Just want to clarify this is purely my own opine about the movie, not just from an Orlando Bloom's fan point of view, but rather an average audiences that pay 13 AUS to watch a film in a real movie theater.
Warning Not a very nice review, so if you think you might get upset about in this review, you probably should turn around and not read anymore around this place.
Anyway, people are allowed to have their own opine.
POTC AWE Review
I wrote this right after saw the movie, waited until now to post it, because I want to give people go to watch this movie without judgment. Since the movie has been on for two weeks, I think now it is the right time to post here.
Name: Pirates of the Caribbeans: At the World's End
Rate: 2.5/5 Stars
Length: 168min
Honestly, at first I have no idea where I should start my review. It is not because there are just too
many good stuffs, but rather I felt the emptiness of story causes the lost of my thoughts on this lost in
words.
As from the second POTC, I felt in love not with the major characters such as CAPITON Jack, or
Elizabeth Swann, i am not going to say I am not in love with Will, since it is hard for me not to fall in
love with any characters played by Orlando, those lashes just kill, OK back to the point.
The most attractive characters in the last two POTC movies, are not the leading ones, but instead those
little ones fulled of personalities, such Ragetti, and Admiral Norrington which played really well by
Jack Davenport.
Similar from the Dead Man’s Chest, I felt the lonely purpose of having this character of Elizabeth in
this latest installment only service the purpose of creating contradict or to have a love triangle between
Jack, Will and her, as because she was in the first one. I felt even thought,Elizabeth was left out in this
one, the movie might be better of. Don’t get me wrong, this is a Disney movie, so what do you expect,
besides from the almost happy ending of love story, But because the only hight light of this movie I can
see so far is the huge scale of special effects, and sits, not even sure about the make-up. All I can
remember from this character Keria plays is her pout lips. As for becoming the King of the pirates
council, that was in my prediction, there are just much less surprises than the first two.
As THE suppose main character, Caption Jack Sparrow, who was killed in the second one, is no
surprise either, instead a interesting, funny, and distinctive pirates caption became a more like mentally
ill addict, or should I say, phyco with a trouble childhood. There was little personalty development in
this installment.
Better stop talking about the characters, as there are not much to discuss anyway. As for the specially
effects this last installment prides about. POTC3 just another typical case of block burst movie that
suffers from the dreaded bigger is better syndrome. Comparing to the second installment, the idea of
those visual effects are more fresh, but rather a imitation version of visual effects seen in the LOTR.
The length of the movie is also way too long, considering the lack of excitements of the story line. The
supernatural elements that suppose to hold the whole film together are just not working, instead
providing the writer the right to be style- free with their imagination, they just makes the movie further
less logic. Well, as for such pirates movie, the audiences are suppose to have a good time, and don’t
have to prob too deeply in the twisted movies logic, the audiences are not stupid. Especially when they
have the first two installments as the benchmarks.
The only surprise I got from it is there is still part of the film come after the Credits ended. But to be
honest, I just couldn’t wait until the credits rolling up the big screen, so I could get out the cinema.
Besides, it was better that I didn’t see the last bits where Will and Elizabeth were having a happy
ending with little Will came into the picture after ten years. I would have given the movie 2.5 stars out
of 5 if I have not seen that extra bits to the already 168 min long movie, but now I have to take back at
least half star given to them.
After all, what can I, and why should I complain. It is a Disney movie, where happy ending is always
expected, and the numbers of its box office, is far more important seen by the producer and the
company. |
