Orlando Bloom is on his way up after the big success as Legolas in Lord of the Rings. The offers are pouring in from Hollywood, everyone wants to se more of this hot guy. Still, Orlando says he’s nothing special – and that he’s a bit of a mother’s boy. Vi Unge met him in Hollywood.

Orlando Bloom was born under a lucky star, if looking at his young life and career. As young as 16 he was already well into the theatre scene in London. It was here that he found out about the auditions for Lord of the Rings. Thousands of people went to the auditions, and even though he didn’t get the part of Faramir that he first auditioned for, he was offered the role of blonde Legolas. Soon after Orlando was on his way to New Zealand to work with a cast of well-known and professional actors.

"It’s completely wild the way the movies have been received, and it has totally turn my life up-side-down. In a good way, that is," he says happily. As a new actor in Hollywood he was able to walk around undisturbed with his short brown hair while the first part of Lord of the Rings was showing. Most people didn’t recognize him without the long, blonde wig that he wears in the movie. But it wasn’t long before everybody went wild about the sexy Orlando, and offers started to pour in.

In Pirates of the Caribbean – the Curse of the Black Pearl he wears his hair in a ponytail and wears an inkling of a beard. When Vi Unge meet him his hair is still shoulder-long and curly. He is tall but very slim, and wears jeans, a white tank top and a bright red shirt and an army jacket. Yum… We praise him for the movie; it’s an old-fashioned adventure movie with pirates, ghosts, treasure and beautiful women. He accepts it with an embarrassed smile and “many thanks” and continues: "One of the really cool things about getting to do Pirates was being able to fence again. I learned to do that as Legolas," he tells us. "At the same time we also had a great time(?) out on the island where we filmed. We also filmed on a ship, and the biggest challenge there was actually keeping your balance."

Where do I sign?

As all other young boys Orlando was fascinated by pirates when he was young. "It was like a young boy’s dream that was fulfilled. Pirates were rebels that said and did what they wanted."

Kind of like what Johnny Depp, who Orlando is acting with in the movie, is doing, one could be tempted to say."Yeah," he says and smiles. "It actually does fit really well on Johnny. He’s always been my idol, so there was no doubt of my answer when I was offered the part. It was just like “Where do I sign? Johnny is a fantastic actor, and I still look up to him after having worked with him. He also gave me lots of good advice, and we had a good time together the whole time – especially over a couple of glasses with real rum, Orlando says and grins again."

Keeping your head cool

It must be a bit hard keeping your head cool when you in a day becomes world famous, and beside from that act next to Elijah Wood, Danish Viggo Mortensen, Johnny Depp and now Brad Pitt, who he is filming another historic movie with, Troy, on Malta. "Yeah, it’s totally wild, and some times I wake up in the morning and I can’t figure out what’s going on in my life – or where I am. It all went so quickly. Viggo was a good friend from the start; my guardian angel. He looked after me as a brother, and he is a cool person with so many talents. I haven’t had that many scenes with Brad Pitt yet, so I don’t know him very well, but I think he is good at what he does."

I’m so grateful

As you’ve already read, Orlando was also very lucky the time he broke his back after falling off a terrace. Even though the doctors were afraid he would never walk again, he got through it. But the accident made him reflect a lot about life – and death. "I still have a difficult time sitting still, but I really try to do better. My life is more fun than ever. On the other hand, I think it’s important that you put your heart into everything that happens in life so that you can really enjoy it. And honestly, if I died tomorrow I would die happy, because I have already experienced more than many experience in a lifetime."

Thank you for the letters

Orlando has become an idol, and posters with his picture decorate the walls of girls’ rooms all over the world. He’s not, however, too excited about that title. "I’m flattered, but I have a hard time understanding that girls think I’m something special, he says wonderingly. I find it difficult to live with all the attention around my person. Strange people come up to me on the street and think they know me, or they just stand there embarrassed and stare."

But that’s what it’s like to be an idol, and that’s what Orlando has been for a while now. That is something he can notice in his fan mail. "I’m not able to answer all the letters that my agent receives every day from fans, most of them girls", he grins and continues, "It’s really wild! And honestly, I say thank you to all who write to me, but I don’t always get to read them. I’m just to busy – unfortunately…"

Orlando engaged?

Could it be that he is also busy spending his rare spare time with actress Kate Bosworth, best known as Bella in Young Americans? Vi Unge wants to know, of course, if this is true, that they are dating. But when we ask his face gets stiff, his smile disappears and he answers shortly that he doesn’t talk about his private life. But rumours say that the two have been on a romantic vacation in the Caribbean, and engagement ring or not, he is supposed to have given her a diamond ring. Kate has also been seen at the hotel where he stays, and why would she be there if it wasn’t for Orlando? Anyway, the two lovebirds have to say goodbye to each other again soon. Right after this interview Orlando is going back to Malta to continue the filming of Troy.

"I’m really looking forward to finishing Troy. It is fun to be busy, but also hard living in a trunk. I haven’t seen my grandparents in a long time, and I miss them a lot," he says. "But my mother is really proud of me, and I’m a real mother’s boy," he says and smiles that charming smile that is so hard not falling for…Sigh…

Some “Backstage info”
During the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean, to be released in Denmark in September, Orlando was one of the only actors who didn’t need to use a wig. Instead, he got hair extensions, and had to sit at the hair dressers for more than five hours..

His mom and dad
My dad is dead now, he was an activist against apartheid in South Africa and ended up in prison for that. I am very proud of him. My mother used to get my sister and I to compete in Bible reading competition and that's when I wanted to perform.

His big sister
When we were young we always fight, but when we got older, we became really close. It was her that taught me about fashion.

Hot girls
My mother had a language school when I was little, so I met all the hot European girls. But the first I was in bed with was an English girl. I was 14 years old. The second time I was in love, I saved up for a plane ticket from Ireland to London so that she could come and visit me. And she did...

Girlfriend
I am very romantic. When I really love a girl, I do the weirdest thing for her. I also think that I am a good boyfriend. But I am very intense. When you are together with me, it’s 100%.

Friends
I love to do things with all my friends in a big group. But I might be the one that leads. I have always been the leader rather than the follower I guess…

Tattoos
I’ve got an elvish-symbol tattoo for “9” on my arm - we all got that tattoo from Lord of the Rings, and I also have a little sun under my navel. But you have to be serious about your tattoo - they stay forever…

"Stand by me"
A fantastic film from the 40. It was one of the main reasons I decided to be an actor.

Linda Evans
She was my first love. I always watched "Dollars" when I was little. At the time my aunt worked as a producer in New York and got me an autograph of her. It was fantastic…

Fun
I was actually thinking about doing comedy once. I can actually be a big nerd, which folks rarely expect…

Music
I like music, especially Irish folk music, but the first concert I have been too was Jamiroquai in Canterbury where I was born. And Michael Jackson "Thriller" was the first album I bought.

ORLANDO HATES...

Arrogance
I surround myself with the friends that would hit me, if I just try to act smart over my success…

Curiousness
Right now, there are a lot of people interested in whether or not I have a girlfriend. I actually think that it is a little spooky…

Regret
I hate to use time to regret something. You have some friends for life, but the other disappears slowly. Also, bad and good things happen to you. I am very philosophical about this: Things happen for a reason, you just have to trust your destiny…

Lack on romance
I think all our generation think about is sex. Sometimes it feels like the romance part about everything has disappeared and I feel sorry about that.

To disappoint people
It’s like about those girls who think that I am some kind of blond god, and it is a little annoying to disappoint them. Legolas’ hair is a wig, and his blue eyes are contact lenses. And I look like him only when I have loads of make-up on me.

Bad habits
I am trying to get rid of my bad habits. I am for example a vegetarian. I also stopped smoking, but unfortunately I still bite my nails.

Money
Of cause I don’t hate money like that, but I don’t like when the money control the choices of a film you are in. Honestly, if I just get a Chance to kiss a girl in a movie; I can just work for free… (Note: this is not true, Orlando has denied ever saying this in recent interviews)

School
I was way more creative than academic. In one of my grade book it's written, “Orlando is a very nice boy, but he would rather look outside the window and play with the hamsters than be in the class”

Sharks
Ever since I saw “Jaws” I have always have this bad feelings about me being eaten by sharks. When I was surfing in New Zealand at night, I saw a fin above the water, and I flipped out totally. But then I realize it was just a seal…

Act smart
The casting for Lord of the Rings, all the short ones became the hobbits and the tall became men and those that looked strange and mouse-like became elves. How proud can you be about that?
女朋友

我是非常罗蔓蒂克的人。如果我真的爱上一个女孩子，我会为她做最不可思议的事情。而且我认为自己会是个很好的男朋友。另外我也是感情十分强烈型的。如果你和我在一起，你会感觉百分百的满意。

Orlando已经成为偶像，他的海报装饰着世界各地女孩子们的墙壁。然而，他自己却对此不是很兴奋。“虽然被大家这样捧着，可我真的很难理解为何女孩子们都认为我有什么特别的。”他有些迷惑的说。“我发现在众人的目光注视下生活是件挺难的事。在街上，一些陌生人走近我，表现的好象他们和我很熟，或者他们只是尴尬的站在那瞪着我看。”

但这看起来正是一个偶像应该会遇到的事，而且也是Orlando目前的状况。甚至在FANS的E-Mail信件中他也遇到了相似的问题，“每天我的经纪人都会替我收到很多信，大部分是女孩子的，但我真的不能一一都回。”他咧嘴一笑，接着说“这感觉真的很疯狂！说实话，我应该好好感谢每一位给我写信的朋友，可我真的没太多时间读它们，我目前确实太忙了，真不幸.....”

OB说他第一个喜欢的女明星是一叫Linda Evans的老牌名星，天啊！怎么又是一个美丽的金黄色头发的女人？OB小的时候受过什么打击啊？？？为啥如此恋“金”？？？还有蓝色眼睛！！！is crazy！怎么觉得这个linda跟kate有点像？（Linda漂亮很多！！！）

OB:"当我还很小的时候总是看“Dallas”，那时候我的姑妈在New youk工作的时候给了我一张Linda的签名照，觉得很稀奇！“

Dallas这部电影一直存在OB的回忆中，我也很想看看Dallas这部电影

当记者问起他感兴趣的话题，他就说”yeah!",露出微笑，那就是电影
他跟Depp有几分相像，“Depp是我的偶像，他事实上做得很好！那是无可否认的事情当我接到这个角色的时候，depp是个奇异的演员，但我一直尊敬他在工作那时候，他常常给我一些好的建议，我们在一起的时侯很好，尤其是戴一副古怪的眼镜”OB又再次展露笑容
