It's a funny story, really...
OK, so I was out with my wife and her mother this past Sunday, cruising
around and shopping in Santa Monica and Malibu. (Well, they were shopping.
I was just along for the ride...) So, we stopped in to get lunch at this
place called "Duke's" on PCH in Malibu at around 1:30pm. It was about an
hour wait for a table so the ladies decided to walk across the street to
this place, "Cosentino's Nursery & Antiques" which had a nice gazebo-type
thing out in the shade with a comfy couch for me to sit and wait. Well,
after goofing around on my iphone for a while I fell asleep on that
couch... and was awoken by a guy walking up to me and asking me if I had a
toilet he could use!!
I did not know that it was Orlando Bloom, I just thought it was some
random rich, handsome guy from Malibu on a Ducati motorcycle... So I gave
him this confused/half asleep look and he apologized and said that he
thought I worked there since I looked so comfortable. (At this point I
noticed his English accent.) We both laughed and he went inside the place.
I sat back down on the comfy couch.
When he came out, he started fiddling around with his motorcycle and some
guy from inside Costetino's came out and started helping him. Apparently,
this guy worked there and just happened to know about motorcycles. As they
were fiddling with it I overheard them talking about how he had just
bought the bike and that he already called the place to come pick it up.
One of the shocks/springy things on the back wheel popped out or
something. (can you tell that I know nothing about motor vehicles?)
Anyway, after a few minutes the guy from the shop starts giving me these
looks like "why aren't you helping? How can you just sit there?!" So, I
get up and start helping them try and pop this spring thing back in to
place, the whole time wondering why this guy from the shop was so
determined to fix the thing when the people from the motorcycle shop were
already on their way....
After about 10 minutes with no success, Orlando decides that he'll just
wait for the people to show up, and right around then, my wife comes out
of the shop and asks me if she can take my picture. Which seemed a little
random to me, but not at all out of the ordinary. (my wife is a
picture-taking freak, especially when her mom is in town!) I found out
later that she was merely having me pose so that she could get a picture
of Orlando Bloom behind me.
OK, so at this point in the story, I am now officially the only person who
is oblivious to the fact that I've been hanging around THE Orlando Bloom
for the past 20 minutes. My wife and her mom ask me if I want to walk back
to Duke's with them to see if our table is ready. I opt to stay at
Cosetino's (on my comfy couch in the shade) and tell her to text me when
it's ready. Well, I go back to sit down and this motorcycle malibu sexy
dude with an English accent has taken my spot! So I just sat down on the
chair next to the couch and started talking with him. I asked him what
part of the U.K. he was from and if he lived in the Malibu area, then he
asked me where I lived, and I told him how I felt totally out of place in
ritsy/rich Malibu. I told him the story of how I was just along for the
ride while the ladies shopped, blah blah blah. The whole time, he had this
little smirk on his face and I couldn't figure out why... Right about then
I get a text from my wife: "THAT'S ORLANDO BLOOM!" I responded "Legolas?!"
She types "YES!"
OK, so now I REALLY feel out of place and like a total dork... So I say to
him, "I'm so sorry man, I didn't recognize you... My wife just texted me"
And he laughed and said "no problem." I shook his hand and told him that
my wife would be really upset if I didn't at least ASK for a picture! He
said sure. I held out my camera, smiled like the geek-boy that I am, then
wished him luck with his motorcycle. He squatted down to start fiddling
with the springy-thing again and I excused myself from the situation. :)
That's my Orlando Bloom story!! Of course, afterwards I kept thinking of
all the things I SHOULD have said and how I should have invited him to my
next show or given him a CD, yadda yadda yadda... But I'm sure I would've
just made even more an ass of myself had I kept talking! ;)
So, to answer your questions... Yes, he's a total hottie and he seemed
like a really nice/sincere type of fellow. I had no idea that Orlando
Bloom was even married, how exciting that he's expecting a child! Very
cool.
Thanks for the message Elena! Feel free to share this story with your
Orlando community of fans!
I'll attach the sneaky picture that my wife took here, too. :)
Have a great day!!
-Danny
