Alfred Dunhill's Mayfair store is more like an amusement park for grown-up boys than a place to buy suits: It was built in 1793 and belonged to the Duke of Westminster (fun tangent fact: He once asked Coco Chanel to marry him. Her reply? "There have been several Duchesses of Westminster. There is only one Chanel." Could I love her any more?), and now it's just about the most impressive boys' club you could ever imagine. Aside from carrying all of Dunhill's ready-to-wear suits and leather goods, the shop has a cinema that shows very manly films all day long (which you can watch from the comfort of your Dunhill leather chair), a barber shop, a humidor (where Winston Churchill used to store his cigars!), and an outdoor cafe where you can sip espresso while you read The Daily Telegraph.
But the store's best feature is the made-to-measure studio, where men can have suits created for them and them alone (it's called bespoke, and it's like couture for dudes). And it just so happens that Dunhill's in-house tailor was working on a couple of pairs of pants for some rather famous clients when we were visiting...behold, the pants patterns for Jude Law and Orlando Bloom. I have to admit, it took a lot of restraint to hold myself back from asking to touch them (yes, I know, that's creepy...but it's JUDE LAW, okay!?).
